SOLUTION

INDICATIONS:
Its use is recommended in the treatment and / or prophylaxis of gastric and duodenal ulcers, in uremic gastritis, drug-induced or stress-related canine erosive gastritis, esophagitis, and gastric or esophageal reflux.
It has also been used for the treatment of hypersecretory conditions associated with gastronomes and systemic mastocytosis. Due to its effects on gastric motility, ranitidine may be useful in accelerating gastric emptying, particularly when its delay is associated with gastric ulcerative disease. It can also serve to stimulate colonic activity in cats, through its prokinetic effects.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
In the H receptors of the parietal cells, ranitidine competitively inhibits histamine, therefore reducing gastric acid production, both under basal conditions and when stimulated by food, amino acids, pentagastrin, histamine or insulin. Ranitidine is 3-13 times more potent (on a molar basis) than cimetidine. Although ranitidine may cause delayed gastric emptying, it most likely stimulates gastrointestinal motility by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (thereby increasing acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors). Pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter may be increased by ranitidine.
By decreasing gastric juice production, ranitidine reduces the amount of pepsin secreted. Ranitidine, unlike cimetidine, does not appear to have an appreciable effect on serum prolactin levels, although it can inhibit vasopressin release.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
Ranitidine is contraindicated in those patients who are hypersensitive to the drug. It should be used with care and the dose may have to be reduced in patients with decreased kidney function. Ranitidine has caused an increase in serum ALT levels.
Do not administer to pregnant females or puppies under 1 year of age.
Do not administer to animals with a history of hypersensitivity to the active principle.
Co-administration with sucralfate can decrease absorption, so the administration of these drugs should be separated from each other by one hour.

STORAGE:
Store in a cool and dry place protected from light, at a temperature between 15ºC and 30ºC.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
