• INDICATIONS:
• OFTAL EYELET based on Ofloxacin, is a broad spectrum antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone family, indicated mainly for infections at the level of the cornea, keratitis, conjunctivitis and other conditions that involve the presence of bacteria resistant to other drugs. .
• MECHANISM OF ACTION:
• Fluoroquinolones are bactericidal agents, they exert their effect by inhibiting DNA gyrase or topoisomerase II, an essential enzyme for the replication of bacterial genetic material. Disruption of the binding of the DNA gyrase enzyme to genetic material blocks multiple cellular functions, many of them vital. Fluoroquinolones in general and particularly those of the third generation are not inactivated in the presence of serum and can exert their antibacterial effect at the intracellular level.
• WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
• Do not administer to animals with known hypersensitivity to quinolones or any of the components of OFTAL COLIRIO.
• At the moment there are no reports of retinal toxicity in cats treated with fluoroquinolone-based ophthalmic products.
• On rare occasions, ophthalmic administration of quinolones can cause conjunctival hyperemia, pruritus (foreign body sensation), photophobia, eyelid edema,
• keratitis with tearing, and nausea.
• Wear gloves, especially when treating a group of animals.
